Ayumi sat in the hallway, biting her lip as she leaned against Colonel Mustang's door. She was waiting for Cathy to hurry up and showed up; didn't she know that they had a briefing this morning?
She really hoped that they were getting the Central City Killer case. Knowing that the Elric brothers were out of town looking for the Philosopher's Stone, she felt that she and Cathy were the next in line for difficult cases like this.
"Where is she?!" she groaned, looking at her watch.

Cathy ran down the hall, tying her hair in two pigtails with black ribbons as she ran. It was obvious to all the people working in Central that she slept in late.
"Ayumi!" she called, finally putting the last bow in her hair before she stopped short before the other girl. "I'm sorry I'm late. Is Roy mad?" she asked, sweat dropping.
If anyone other than the Fullmetal Alchemist knew, her step brother had a real bad temper, even toward herself. She always hated when he treated her just like all the other officers, sometimes even at home.

"I dunno, I was too scared to check," she admitted, sweatdropping a little bit. She gave the door a shy knock. "Um, Colonel?"
"It's about time. Get in here!" Mustang snapped.
Squeaking, she opened the door and jumped in, pulling Cathy with her. "Sorry!"

"Eep!" Cathy squeaked, stumbling into Mustang's office with her. "Umm...H-Hi, Brother," she said, waving to him with a nervous smile.
[blue]"Don't "Hi, Brother" me! You slept in again, didn't you, Cathy?" Roy snapped at the brunette.[/blue]
Cathy bowed her head in shame. "Y-Yes..." she mumbled and looked to the side. 'Stupid alarm clock!' she thought, thinking about the smashed mess pile on her bedroom floor that use to be an alarm clock before it collided with the wall.

Ayumi pouted as she listened to Mustang yell at Cathy. She wanted to intervene, but she didn't want them to get into even more trouble.
Riza cleared her throat, getting her attention. "The case, Sir," she reminded him.
"Right." Roy sat down, pulling out a large stuffed with papers. "As you know, there's a new serial killer out there in Central-"
Yes! Ayumi cheered in her head.
He opened the file and started taking out some pictures. "As you can see, this is no ordinary murderer. This one-" he pointed to the pictures, which depicted gruesome remains of people. "-is an alchemist."

Cathy took the photos and grimaced. While Ayumi has a happy look on her face, Cathy had a uncomfortable nervous look on her face. "And what are the killer's targets?"
[blue]Roy shrugged as he sat back down. "Mostly women. Other Alchemists too if they're skilled enough. The killer likes challanges."[/blue]
Cathy then glared up at Roy. "And you're sending US? If you haven't noticed, we're women AND alchemists..."

"Which is why we're the perfect bait!" Ayumi grinned.
Mustang nodded. "Exactly."
Riza pointed to one of the pictures, where the entrails of a girl were spread over an incomplete transmutation circle made of blood. "This was the last victim."
Ayumi took the picture and peered into it. Now she was starting to feel a bit queasy, but she pretended it didn't bother her. "Looks like the killer didn't get a chance to finish." She looked at Cathy. "Maybe he was interrupted by someone?"

Cathy shrugged uncomfortably. "Perhaps," she said and looked back up at Roy. "Any witnesses?" she asked, referring to people who have seen the murderer of course.
[blue]Roy shook his head. "Unfortunately, no. We don't have a very good description of the guy besides the fact that he wears a white mask and a black cloak."[/blue]
"Sounds like this man likes to play games..." Cathy muttered as she looked over the photos once more then stuffed them back into the folder. "Don't worry, Roy! We'll handle it!" she said, trying to smile widely.
[blue]Roy placed his hands on his desk, annoyed and stood up. "How many times have I told you? You call me Colonel at work!" he said, glaring but then smiled. "Please, be careful you two..."[/blue]
Cathy winked and saluted. "Sure thing, Roy-boy!"

Giggling, Ayumi grabbed the folder. "Okay, bye Hot Tamale! Bye Riza!" She ran out into the hallway before she could hear what the Colonel had to say about his new nickname.

[blue]Roy groaned and sat back down, running his hands through his bangs. "I hope those two don't screw up..." he said, afraid of them getting killed.[/blue]
[yellow]"I'm sure they'll be fine, Colonel. They haven't undergone training for nothing," Riza said, placing a cup of coffee down next to the Colonel.[/yellow]
[blue]"I guess you're right..."[/blue]

Outside the Colonel's office, Cathy leaned against the door and sighed, sliding down it in relief. "I guess that didn't go as bad as I thought it would..." she muttered.

"What're you talking about, this is great! We got the case!" Ayumi danced around Cathy, waving the folder around. One of the pictures floated out; a picture of a woman's head, a grosteque expression of horror and pain still etched in her face. A transmutation circle was carved into her cheek.

Cathy shook her head. "I was talking about facing Roy!" she said then looked down at the photo, her face going a bit green. "Oh, dammit! I'm not going to wuss out!" she said, grabbing the photo and standing up in determination. She then turned to Ayumi and smiled nervously. "So, where should we start?"

Ayumi opened the file and started flipping through the papers, looking for the file of the last victim. "Looks like the last person died a few days ago; they only found the body yesterday." She stared at the file for a few minutes, thinking hard.
What was he trying to transmute? It's obviously human transmutation, but what? It's not like he'd be trying to bring them back to life or anything.
"I guess we should just take turns playing bait. Sounds like a good idea to me, how about you?" She smiled nervously at her. "I'll go first if you want."

Cathy shrugged. "Well, if you're okay with it. Should we find a place near the crime scene?" she asked, wondering where the killer struck last as she took the folder from Ayumi. "The last body was found near the local pub," she said, reading off the file. "It figures!" she said, rolling her eyes.

"So, the killer probably just picked up some random drunk girl. So all I gotta do is drink and show off my alchemy, right?" Ayumi flipped through the folder again, looking at all the pictures. "Sounds easy enough."
